Starting with a bit of bad news this morning: I’ve hurt my knee. My left knee to be precise, and somewhere on the lower part of the knee cap, to be exact.
At some point during the morning yesterday, I was heading upstairs to my office carrying a nice, tasty brew, and I must have landed clumsily on the step, and jerked my knee somehow.
I’m convinced it’s to do with saddle height at this point. I’ve been mucking around, raising and lowering it. I’ve knocked it down by at least an inch last night, and then still ridden this morning. This may have been a bad idea™.
Knowing my leg was a bit risque, I decided to go a touch easier on myself this morning. That said, I wasn’t too dissimilar to yesterday’s ride stats, but without the intention of trying to make it to 10km in 20 minutes.
Also, the little man didn’t give me the “OK” today. Sad face.
Yesterday Zwift gave me an automatic / guesstimated bump in FTP, from 127w to 137w. Today’s ride was at a 132w average, so under that figure. Not sure if that’s good or bad, or within tolerances.
Today was more about trying to keep up a regular cadence. I didn’t do so swimmingly here, as Watopia Flat Circuit is more hilly than the name leads you to believe.
One of the hardest parts of Watopia Flat, in my opinion, is the location of the Sprint section. It comes late in the circuit, maybe 3/4s of the way round. And by that point I’m pretty much spent. Compared to the London sprint, it’s longer. Brutally, it’s also followed by another climb
I’m happy to have beaten my previous record, though if memory serves, I really messed up on my last attempt due to being in completely the wrong gear, and having to rapidly shift after passing the start line. However, maybe that was a sprint in London, it’s hard to recall.
Overall I’m pretty happy with the day. Hopefully my knee feels better as the day goes on. If not, I may have to take a rest day tomorrow. Bit frustrating and disappointing if that is the case.
The improvements I’m seeing currently are slow, but steady. I’m riding longer, and harder than I was just two weeks ago when I started my indoor cycling journey.
There’s still a lot of “easy” improvement and gains to be had. It’s kinda funny really, every time my FTP increases it proves that I’m improving, but also makes the “game” that much harder.
Hopefully, I will be riding again tomorrow.
