Silly me. I had planned on riding solo to cover Zwift Academy #4, but instead, saw that another group workout was just about to start. So I jumped in. And lo-and-behold, it turned out to be a repeat of Zwift Academy 2019 Workout #1: Threshold Development.
That’s not such a bad thing – it was a decent workout.
However, there’s no Zwift Academy credit for repeating a workout.
In other words, there are 8 individual workouts and you must complete all 8. You cannot do 8 of the same workout.
I guess that’s a good thing, but it sucks that I ‘wasted’ an hour when I could have put it towards the Zwift Academy riding goal. Only 40 days left now to do 5 more workouts and 2 more group rides.
The makeup of this group was fine, though a lot less chatty than any of the previous Zwift Academy workouts / events I have attended. I guess maybe the most keen Zwifters hit the events first time round, rather than the repeats.
In truth this workout was probably more intense than the workout I had planned to ride. I’m not sure of the intensity of that other one – threshold development – but it looked like bits of red, with long recoveries in between. This one is a bit more full on.
I’m not going to cover each section on this ride.
You are welcome to look at the screenshots – each of the trainer tips things that pop up on screen are, in my opinion, quite informative. Especially for beginners.
But I covered them all last time so this time they are just there as markers of what I did.
Hitting up Sand and Sequoias made for an interesting run out. That’s my third time round there now. I can’t quite remember if I’ve done it in reverse yet. Probably not.
That said, I’m looking really unlikely to hit my 100km riding goal this week. I only have two more days of riding left, and that means averaging 40kms each ride. Very unlikely.
I’m not overly concerned about this, just sucks to miss the goal.
Yesterday I didn’t ride. I was planning on doing a Zwift Academy 2019 workout, but when I got home I just couldn’t be bothered.
One thing that happened towards the end of this ride was that my calf cramped started to twitch again. Not great. Hopefully get myself a sports massage next week.
Water consumption was relatively high today though I did swap out my usual sparkling water bottle at dinner time for one of them high sugar junk drinks – I forget the name now. It wasn’t an “energy drink” – more of a fruity / sugar hell kind of thing. I’ll take a look tomorrow and see if I can remember what it was. Out the meal deal it was £2.20 for this tiny drink which lasted me about 4 gulps. After that my teeth felt fizzy. Utter junk.
One weird thing that happened whilst I was on this ride – everyone in the house went out. And no one told me.
When I got off the bike I had my shower, and only then realised things were a little too quiet.
Still, it’s given me chance to do this write up.
All in all, I definitely felt ready to get back on the bike today.
As mentioned, yesterday I just wasn’t feeling it. It sucks missing a day when I have so few this week, but I guess it’s best to listen to my body.
The cramp issue is giving me concern.
I finally have my foam roller so I’m going to go and give that a whirl before tea is ready.
I guess the plan for tomorrow is to hit up the Zwift Academy workout I was supposed to ride this afternoon.
Given the choice I’d definitely prefer a group ride. It’s a shame I wasn’t aware it wouldn’t count for anything more than a workout.
I will likely opt to ride on some flat course for my workout. It’s the best way I have of getting close to that 100km riding goal.
But then if I get really close… like 80km or so, I’ll just be miffed that I didn’t have time to do the extra 20km… can’t win.
I’m looking at the positives here. 475 calories. A decent workout. 23km done for the week. An hour down off the 3 hour riding goal.
Could have just spent it slothing out in front of the TV.
