I’m aiming to get all the Long routes done for this years Tour of Watopia. Stage 3 looks like it’s going to be suitably horrendous, but Stage 1 certainly wasn’t that bad.
This one saw us tackling the Triple Flat Loops route. A new route badge for me today. And honestly, a route I had no idea what was involved nor where we were going. I thought we would be doing three laps of the Flat Route, simply because of the name.
But no.

This one is a circuitous tour of Watopia’s flatter parts, with the loops being the double cuts across the perimeter. Had I known that at the time, I likely wouldn’t have felt quite so lost.
Being mostly flat, this one was quick. I resolved to keep to a similar pace that I held during the Stage 1 Short ride on Thursday. This started well enough, but as the graph shows below, I definitely dipped after the first third of the ride.

My pace target was ~230w for the duration and I, somehow, managed to hit that bang on. I suspect the final sprinty bit (pushed on me by the Aero Helmet power up at the very end) helped boost the stats a tad.
One thing that I may be misremembering here, but did we turn into Dinosaurs at all during this ride? I can’t think that we did. Maybe the fun stuff is reserved for the shorter rides in Stage 1?

I am planning to do the Medium sized ride tomorrow. It’s still ~30km but I suspect it’s flatter. I honestly don’t know what is involved as I have done no research. It can’t be that bad though, given this was the Long ride and was a fairly gentle ease in to the Tour of Watopia. At least when compared to some of the brutal rides of the Tour de Zwift.
Anyway, all good. I may go for a walk though tomorrow. Maybe. I know I will destroy my feet if I do, but I really do fancy getting out of the house. I can’t think I’ve been out all week, and some hours away from the PC would do me the world of good.
