Up To Tempo

The plan today was to do a tempo workout – something intensive enough to test the knee, but not so stressful that it risked damage. After yesterday’s ride I was confident this one should be fairly straightforward, but it made sense to do a controlled effort at a steady wattage just to be sure.

I wanted to do this ride on MyWhoosh. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to test out the software on a workout.

When I booted Windows to get underway, I found MyWhoosh needed a 3.2gb patch. A bit frustrating, but in the end I left it doing its thing and went off for my dinner.

Once back and already in my kit, I booted MyWhoosh and then I remembered I needed to change over the BlueTooth and ANT+ dongles to make the software play nicely. So I did that… and then it prompted yet another large patch:

I’m not sure how big that patch actually was – it didn’t say. But it was taking ages. Clearly it was in the gigabytes in size. Quite frustrating after doing a 3.2gb patch already.

So I figured, sod it. And I booted up Zwift instead.

With MyWhoosh patching in the background, it was a bit of a jerk fest today. But the workout I picked was simple enough. It was one I used a long while back, on recovery from a previous injury:

I could probably have handled two blocks of this. But it ended and I felt like I’d done enough to satisfy the itch.

Now, somewhat perversely, the only pain I got today was in the right knee.

Allegedly it’s my left knee that needs to recover.

So whilst I’m not worried by this – heck, I’m actually feeling pretty good about how quick this recovery is going – I don’t want to rush it.

Tomorrow will probably be Stage 6 of the Tour de Zwift, if it’s available. I’ve not checked yet.

I also don’t know what is in store for Stage 6. If it’s a steady state climb then I’ll pick the easier / medium route. I’m not yet ready to put that much stress on this joint.

But aside from that, pretty positive.
