Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here.
Overall a really positive week both on the bike and in my trainers 🙂
Just one thing that I said I would do and didn’t get done. But I’m not overly fussed about it. I feel like I put in a solid week.
Here are this week’s rides / run:
- Tuesday – 97% (Zwift)
- Wednesday – MyWhoosh Tempo #5 Workout on Kluisbergen Route (MyWhoosh)
- Thursday – Wimped Out Of Racing (Zwift)
- Saturday – Less Speed, More Distance (Zwift Run)
Starting with the one thing I said I would do, and didn’t.
That would be a Zwift race.
Given how I struggled (still) to get back up to 100% FTP on the SST session, and how even when I am at 100% I struggle to finish better than 30th every week, I figured I wasn’t going to do too much damage by skipping yet another week of racing fun.
The way I see it, right now it’s better to get in more time / distance, than overexert and push myself whilst actually overall doing less than if I’d done an easier, longer session.
I would really like to do a race in the week ahead, but again it’s going to be dependant on the SST session tomorrow.
OK, so positives.
Last week I did my SST Session at 96%, and this time around 97%.
Unsurprisingly, tomorrow will aim to complete at 98%. It’s almost as if there’s a pattern emerging.
Seems to be working.
I will also be doing another MyWhoosh workout on Wednesday, all being well. So that leaves Thursday to be race day, which is the current plan. Whether than means the MyWhoosh session will be lower effort – more endurance, I am not yet sure. Have to see how I feel after tomorrow.
Overall though, I set out to push the Intervals.icu graph this week with three midweek workouts developing a bunch of fatigue, and then recovering and hoping to see the fatigue and fitness rise again at the weekend.
That did happen, and I’m not surprised as to why.
For Saturday’s session I did another Zwift Run.
Only this time I pushed myself to run for 40 minutes. The past ~8 weeks have been doing 5k’s at 30 minutes, and that’s been challenging. But having completed the Tour de Zwift, I was keen to keep the running going, whilst pushing my boundaries further.
On Saturday I decided to run for 40 minutes, at 10.5kph.
The idea here was that it was 10 minutes longer, give or take, whilst at a slightly reduced pace – 10.5kph as opposed to 11kph I had been at for the final TdZ session.
Mission accomplished. And whilst I still don’t enjoy the running anywhere near as much as cycling, I am determined to stick with it for the foreseeable. I will aim to repeat the same session this weekend, and maybe run slightly longer still. Or maybe bump the pace a touch.
But yeah, overall really good this week.
If I can repeat this, and throw in a race, I will be super chuffed.
Here’s to a good week ahead.
