Right then. Big weekend just gone. Bit of a special one… another year to go now and I turn 40. Decided to celebrate out with a bit of beef and a bottle of red. And a pudding. And then an ice cream lolly pop when I got home. All in, probably 2500+ calories. 😱
Now, if things had gone to plan on Sunday I wouldn’t have minded those calories so much. In fact, I gave it no second thought. But then I was drunk. And had a banging headache later on.
Even so. Today I had to rectify the damage. As it was I was really quite looking forward to getting on the bike. Ahead of time I had in mind that I would repeat one of either of the recent two Norseman workouts. When it came to it, I opted for a repeat of Norseman Workout #3: Geilo.
What I’d have quite liked to do, truth be told, is have done a Wahoo SYSTM workout. However, I didn’t have the time to mess around. If I’d hit on troubles, again, I’d have lost the chance to get in a proper session. Sucks, really. I’d really like to get into that program.
However I did enjoy the ride today. A good, solid calorie burn and it felt worthwhile. I’m considering doing another one of the Norseman rides tomorrow – probably the Norseman Workout #4: Hardangervidda session, with the idea of getting some full pictures as last time it all went a bit wrong.
Do I feel stronger from any of this?
Not really.
However, this is all prep for the forthcoming 4DP test.
Now, I may wimp out of this a bit and do the “half monty” this time. My reasoning isn’t just that I’m soft, it’s that I haven’t done the “half monty” and am keen to at least give it a go in the 14 day trial period.
For all my issues with the Wahoo SYSTM, the one thing that does work are the FTP / fitness tests. That’s because those are free rides… by and large. So the numbers do play out properly, even if the ERG bits clock in at a high level. I’d love to get in a proper session on that first though, just to get my bearings.
Anyway, yeah, a good one today. Some days I really can’t be bothered getting on the bike. Even more so when it’s a turbo session. But today I was bang up for it, and really enjoyed my session. Let’s hope for more of that tomorrow.
