Fourteen days into the Advent of Cycling challenge and I’m really starting to feel tired. Rest days are important, folks. Just another 9 rides to go…
After yesterday’s race I woke up today just knowing I wouldn’t want to get on the bike. It definitely didn’t help with it being -7c outside, and sleeping terribly. But come lunch time I knew what had to be done, and so on I went regardless.
Opting for a 1/5 intensity ride today (according to Zwift’s opinion), I picked Week 5 Day 1 of the 10-12 Week FTP Builder, one of two of my old reliable easy day rides.
This one is 5 blocks of 8 minutes @ 65% FTP, a ten minute ramp up to begin, and a 5 minute cooldown at the end. It’s easy, but it’s boring.
So what I did is I brought the work laptop over to the bike and continued working throughout. With the window open and fan on, I only needed the occasional towelling to keep things in check. Lovely stuff. And such a pretty mental picture.
Thankfully the time passed quickly enough.
It does beg the question what to do tomorrow. At this point I’m thinking I might opt for a short but intensive workout. It depends how I feel, but if I feel like I do today, it’s probably best to get it over with quickly, whilst still doing something of value.
Frankly, I knew this challenge would eventually catch up with me. At over half way, and pretty much in “the dip”, things can surely only get better from here.
