Lionel Sanders’ Yellow Day Workout in New York

Boredom.

That’s my theory on why the people over at Zwift HQ meddled with the Workouts menu.

Gone are all the usual ones I knew, and in their place are a few groups and some obvious brand associations.

OK, so I’m in a bit of a bad mood today.

I’ll try to offset some of my misery by saying that I do appreciate the new Sweet Spot category. It looks like there’s a bunch of variations on the typical SST session for me to try out. That’s nice.

However, today I was (and still am) feeling exhausted.

I was going to do an SST session but being honest with myself, I didn’t think I’d make it through it. Or if I did, I didn’t think I’d have much left after doing so.

As such I gave myself a reprieve. I was going to do one of the 12 week FTP Builder sessions, one of the 8 minute’s at 180’s repeated several times rides. Something like a 1.5/5 in terms of effort.

But they are gone. Not sure if they are gone completely, or just in some new place. Whatever, I couldn’t find them. I suspect they are gone for good.

In its place I found this Lionel Sanders’ Yellow Day Workout, which it turns out is a big tie-in with Whoop fitness bands. I only know of them via GCN (another brand tie-in), but I know enough to know it’s a paid monthly subscription thing with a watch-esque type band you wear, and it tracks your body metrics(?)

Whatever.

Basically I am far too cheap and tight to buy one.

So I’m not 100% sure what a ‘Yellow Day’ is, but the workout looked about similar to what I was after. Three blocks of 10 minutes at 180w, which is about 2.75w/kg for me.

It feels like a while since I’ve done a recovery ride, and honestly this one was probably even on the higher end of what I ought to have been doing. Like I say, I felt shot.

I’m hoping I feel a little more recovered tomorrow. With the Alpe du Zwift on Saturday, and a race tomorrow, I am probably over doing it lately.

As far as the workout goes, what I will say is it was nice to have some on-screen ‘stuff’ to read. It didn’t have any spelling or grammar mistakes, so I figure it was written by the Whoop people not the Zwift team. Snark.

And aside from the undercurrent of product placement or whatever, it felt like it was well thought out and probably useful.

Yeah, I’m running out of stuff to say now. Bad mood Brian. Back tomorrow.
