You know it’s going to be a tough day on the bike when your legs are complaining during the warm up.
Opting to join one of the Robo Pacers on the Watopia Waistband route, this C category ride was, I think, set to a 2.8w/kg average.
For me that falls somewhere around low tempo, so it took some effort to get the legs spinning quickly. Or at least, quickly enough to be sat in during the assisted pedal portion.
From then on it was a case of grinding out an hour on the bike. I thought about calling it a day at 30km, but with the pack dynamics that would have meant finishing up about 40 minutes in. That’s pretty much where I’ve been on all my recent rides and I need to get back into the habit of doing slightly longer sessions.
So, begrudgingly, I stayed on for the full hour. I couldn’t do more.
The Tour de Zwift starts tomorrow and there are some serious longer rides in this one. We will be hitting pretty much every climb of note in the game, with the only exception being Innsbruck if I am thinking straight.
That said, for me, Monday is a rest day so Tuesday is when festivities begin. Better get some rest between now and then, as I’m also racing this week. Nuts.
