Right Side Good

Today was the first proper ride with my new shoes, or more specifically, with a changed cleat setup.

tl;dr; it’s not perfect, yet.

The right side feels really good. It’s night and day difference to how my old cleat was fitted. Whoops. The placement feels absolutely spot on. To the point where I instinctively find the pedal and clip in bang on.

The left side is almost right. It feels different to how the old left shoe did, with the pedal spindle feeling like it’s right under the spot where I’m guessing it should be. This is back from where it was, which is probably best illustrated with a smelly foot picture (not mine) and some lines (mine):

So the red line is roughly where I was before, and the green line is where it feels like I am now.

I may have over exaggerated the lines here, but hopefully it illustrates the point better than words and abstract explanations.

The only issue now is just a slight heel adjustment on the left side, to bring the heel in towards the bike, which is as my feet would naturally align if left to dangle loose.

That right position though. Wow. Worth the shoe upgrade alone.

As I did this ride mid afternoon (long day yesterday, and today), I had to be off for a 4pm meeting. As such I skipped some of the 1 minute breather intervals, and 3 minutes of the warm up. I also completely forgot to take any screenshots of the ride itself. Not that there was much to see.

Hopefully I haven’t accidentally messed up here and damaged my left leg by riding on it in a slightly odd position.

After the ride I took a few minutes to adjust my cleat, but I’ve not yet had chance to test it. I guess that will be for tomorrow.
