It’s Good, But It’s Not Quite Right

Like yesterday, today was first and foremost about getting the cleat position dialled in. As per the rather witty title, I’m still not 100% happy with my left cleat position, but it’s better than it was. I’m guessing I only need a minor tweak now, which I haven’t yet made.

I’m noticing my knees are a little tender.

Now, this could be due to having to adjust to the new position, or it could be a sign that I have this all wrong. I’m thinking it’s a case of having to adjust, slightly, to the new position. If it persists then I will reconsider, but for now it’s not enough to make me worry.

The idea behind yesterday’s workout was a steady pace ride – just to get a feel for riding consistently with the new setup.

Today was about going a little harder, but in controlled bursts and with plenty of rest between. If anything had felt overly bad I’d have stopped, but I reckon if I can just get that left cleat nailed, I may be able to put down a few percentage points of increase in wattage thanks to a more efficient pedal position.

Hope so, anyway. I’d love me some juicy gains. All the sweeter if they come ‘for free’.

Tomorrow I’m going to try another small adjustment on the left, and then do something a little more taxing. Maybe an SST session. Not sure yet, it all depends. We’ve had workmen in all day, so in between their power cuts and demands for brews, it’s not exactly ideal indoor riding conditions.

Maybe, with a pinch of luck, I might be able to nip out at dinner time tomorrow for a 40 minute effort. I’d love that. Being locked in the house, dark nights and freezing weather, it’s already driving me nuts. Boy do I miss those joyous days of early Spring from this year. I tell you, a lot of people slate the UK weather, but we’ve not had it so bad this time around.
