Tour de Zwift 2024: Stage 6 [Run]

Well there we go. Had you told me before Christmas that I would run seven 5K’s, and walk one before the middle of February was out, I would have questioned your sanity.

However, here we are. And that is what I’ve done.

Yes, I had to walk one – and boy howdy was that a long hour on the treadmill – but I managed to complete the Tour de Zwift 2024 as a run, and I’m pretty pleased with that.

A big question was on my mind during the sort of mid-section of this event, as to whether I would continue doing the runs each week once the event was over. And I think the answer is that yes, I will. I will aim to do (at least) 5km on the treadmill once a week, just to keep the habit I have formed.

Also I quite like having the variety of three rides, one run, and one walk in a week. Although this week is two runs, because of the make up week.

The other thing is, after yesterday I just wasn’t up for another ~50 minute SST session. That could happily wait till Saturday, thank you.

Even so, today wasn’t easy.

I have been bumping the treadmill up by 0.1kph on each run, and today’s was at 11kph to see me out. On the positive side that does mean the whole ordeal was over the fastest of the lot, but equally I had to work for it. I’d still say the earlier events – Stage 1 in particular – were harder. I was running slower, and in Stage 1 I was using the Zwift Run Pod which was wild in the numbers if reported. At least with the Zwift Runn treadmill mounted hardware the numbers are pretty rock steady.

It’s been really nice to do things differently. It’s been nice to constantly be setting PBs, and that’s in stark contrast to my cycling where everything has been going downhill for months on end.

So yeah, even though it’s out of Stage order, that does nicely wrap up this year’s Tour de Zwift. And for my troubles I have unlocked a terrible kit and rather knackered knees.

Result.
