Weekly Review June 3rd – 9th 2024

Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here

Down overall on the week before. That comes down to a shorter ride on Saturday. However I did get some interesting tech insight from Saturday’s ride. Every cloud.

Here are this week’s rides:

I mixed it up a bit this week by riding the first three days of the week, and then taking two rest days. I actually quite enjoyed that, so will attempt to repeat that again. It’s not always possible, as it’s both weather and work dependent. But I will try.

As three of the four rides were done outdoors, I am a little less harsh on myself when I don’t get in a 30km ride in the hour. With dressing time, setup, getting out and riding, getting back and showered, changed, and fed, it’s a lot to ask from 60 minutes. Anything over 20km outdoors is a win.

That said, I am getting a bit bored of the same old routes right now. It would be nice to go further afield. However, that’s quite impractical midweek.

I’m quite excited about the new MyWhoosh updates coming shortly. I’ve found MyWhoosh workouts to be really solid, and it doesn’t give you that false bump in distance like I used to get on Zwift.

On the one hand it is nice to get in the longer distance each week, but on the other it’s a bit of a killer when you get out on the open road and find that, hey, achieving 40kph whilst on a recovery ride is actually not possible. What gives?

I did have a dream about Zwift last night though, which is quite odd. If only MyWhoosh had the racing element. Then it would be perfecto.

Overall though, happy enough. My fitness is the highest it’s been in as long as I’ve been using Intervals.icu to track it, and I do feel stronger lately. It’s definitely helping having the protein shake pre-ride rather than after. And my weight seems to have settled too.

More of the same for the week ahead please.
