For this ride I wanted something “light”. Something nice and easy, but still putting in a bit of time. Zwift’s 12 Week FTP Builder Week 5 Day 5, an optional workout, seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
I’m not sure if the FTP bump from yesterday changed things a touch for me. These previous blue block rides have been typically at 125w. Today they were all at 130w. Not anything significant, in the scheme of things.
A mistake on this one was probably my choice of route. I opted for New York’s High Line (as best I recall) which meant a lot of climbing. A bit pointless at 130w, if I’m being honest.
All that meant was I was stuck in one place for overly long periods of time, as the world and its dog passed me by.
As such, after a while, I simply U-turned and gave up with the high roads.
I wasn’t watching Zwift that much on this one, in fairness. I’d alt+tab out to watch other stuff in order to kill the time.
One thing that caught me off guard on this ride was how tense my legs were.
After yesterday’s race I knew I needed to take it easy. What I wasn’t quite prepared for was initially how stiff I felt. Silly me for not cooling off properly yesterday.
On the back of Philip’s advice (thanks!), I have ordered myself a foam roller to help with post ride stretching. Should be here tomorrow.
In the mean time it’s funny to think how the average watts graph is going to look in this week’s weekly review.
Yesterday was, I think, my most intense ride ever on Zwift. Today was amongst the easiest (at least, in a very long time).
Still, ~300 calories burned. It’s better than being sat on the sofa.
26 TSS though 🙂 Lol.
Tomorrow I’m aiming to hit another Zwift Academy 2019 workout.
The aim here is to do one of the online group rides, rather than my week night solo efforts. That will be a good end to a decent week. I’ve not yet hit my 100km riding goal for the week, but should do as long as I hit that workout. Not sure what time yet – ideally early morning, I feel.
Keep those legs spinning!
