Zwift Academy Road: [Short] Workout 5 | Pyramids

Right then, another day of two workouts in a row.

Opting for the “short” variants to get all of the six workouts done in a week, I wasn’t sure what to expect from these two today.

The main metric I had paid attention to was Duration.

Doing workouts #3 and #4 on Thursday I was just over an hour combined. That made a nice little sandwich for my dinner break.

Today’s workouts were both longer, each around the 34 minute mark. But honestly, hardly much in it really.

This one featured two blocks.

The first was the pyramid section, and the second a longer tempo effort to finish off.

Looking at the numbers required I wasn’t overly worried about making it through this one.

I should say though that whilst that sounds quite cocky, it’s more based on the amount of recovery between the efforts.

If it had been 30 seconds on, 15 off, then 45 on, 30 off, something like that, I feel this would have been more challenging.

As it was, the recovery gaps between each interval were really generous.

I’d honestly have to question how much value these sorts of intensities are in identifying the Zwift pro candidates.

Maybe the workouts just don’t factor in to it at all.

To me, these actually feel like they would be best set up as a tutorial to Zwift.

In that regard I feel they would be a great welcome to the platform. Maybe they could have like an easy / medium / hard tutorial series, with this one maybe being the medium set?

The second block, the tempo effort…

Yeah, gunna have to say that one was straightforward.

I’m going to give this whole workout a 5 out of 10 in terms of difficulty.

This is based on Sweet Spot Training being an 8 out of 10.

Certainly this one felt like one of the easiest of the six.

However immediately after this I was moving on to workout #6.

Doing two workouts in the same session actually does increase the value of the overall exercise I feel.

So on that front I can’t say I missed out on my calorie burn today 🙂

And with that done, it was over to Watopia.
