Off we go then with a new official series from Zwift. This one is the Zwift Spring Training series, which is six group workouts running between 17th April and 31st March.

For workout #1 we did a new workout that appears to have been crafted especially for the Zwift Spring Training series called Aerobic Rev Up.
At 40 minutes long, this was a pretty good fit for a dinner time workout. And being Tempo focused, it felt like just the right amount of work for what I was looking for. Pretty lucky.
The one downside was that it’s been a nice day outside today, so a lunch time bike ride in fairly nice weather was passed over to hit this one.
This workout consists of a fairly long warm up, followed by two 10 minute blocks of actual work, broken up with another 5 minute recovery between the two.
Overall the intensity was suggested to feel around a 5 or 6 out of 10, and I’d say that was pretty much bang on.
The one thing that isn’t immediately obvious from the graph alone is that the second block of 10 minutes is slightly higher intensity than the first:
In the first pass we started with 2 minutes at 190w, but in the second block that rises to 200w.
Similarly 4 minutes at 200w, then 4 minutes at 210w.
Lastly 2 minutes at 215w, which rises to 225w the second time around.
Fortunately the 1 minute intervals don’t change.
For a midday weekday group ride, this one was fairly well attended. Over 200 riders took part, but there wasn’t a huge amount of social interaction in this one.
Looking at the remainder of the workouts, all appear to be between 40 and 50 minutes in length. This does make it possible to do them during my lunch hours – providing I then work a bit late. No big thing.
I’m wondering how intensive these are going to be. So far this one has started around the same sort of intensity as the most recent Zwift Academy workouts, so I’m thinking they are going to be quite ‘inclusive’ and not overly brutal.
But we shall see.
If I thought Zwift were going easy on us, that was definitely not the case during the two recent Tour series.
Anyway, all good.
Hopefully tomorrow I can go for 30-40 minutes outdoors as a bit of recovery. I tend to burn more calories outdoors anyway. Just hope I haven’t burned my good weather points riding indoors.
