OK, so truth be told, I wasn’t planning on doing this particular workout today. If things had gone to plan then I would have done an hours ride, give or take. But for various reasons, I ended up pushing my ride back, then back again, then back beyond tea time… until it was 20:10 and I still hadn’t gotten my ride done for the day.
My options being either do nothing, or do something, I opted for a short ride – ideally 10km or so.
Earlier in the day I’d received an email from Zwift telling me the workout of the week this week was the AT/OVERs session, so figured what the heck, it’s only 20 minutes, that sounds perfect given the limited time I had left.
And honestly, it probably was as good a use of my time as I could get. Sure, maybe I could have done slightly more TSS points, but I doubt by much.
The gist of this workout was as follows:
That’s at an FTP of 234w.
In short, about 12.5 minutes of work, starting off hard and getting easier (in one way) as the ride went on.
I have to say that hitting the 110rpm requirement for the OVER blocks was probably the hardest task of the lot, and I question the sense in dropping immediately to cool down after the final block. The jolt of going from 110rpm with resistance to no resistance is really risky in terms of knee injury in my experience – poor thought there.
All in, I wish I’d done a longer ride and earlier on the day. However, for the 20 minutes as I say above, it’s better than nothing.
But for now, bath time.
