Advent of Cycling – Day 6 – A Little Bit Harder, A Little Bit Faster

The idea today was to push myself harder than I have done for the past month or so. This would be 20 minutes at 205w, or 3.1w/kg. I wasn’t expecting to struggle with this, but it was certainly harder than anything I have done as of late. Still, fresh legs and all that.

As a base of reference, 205w is what a SST session would consider an “off” interval.

I’ve been building back up to these higher intensity intervals during this week, so it wasn’t a complete shock to the system. And I did manage to finish it without breaking much past 172bpm, with an average in the high 160s. This sounds… frightful, but for me, it’s about normal. So nothing major to concern myself with. Certainly no sudden spikes as a result of not doing this kind of activity over the last month.

In truth I kinda enjoyed pushing myself more than usual. And I don’t seem to be suffering after for it, either. Bonus. As a post birthday treat to myself, I am enjoying a bit of rum as I type this. I’m not much one for alcohol anymore, so you likely tell how much this is absolutely smashing me, and how many typo’s I’ve made and had to subsequently delete along the way.

As I finished up today I was at about 380 calories on the Garmin. Not bad for 30 minutes. But I really wanted to hit 400 for some inexplicable reason.

In order to hit that figure I decided I’d push myself a little harder on two of the little ascents on the London Classique circuit.

And then I went silly with a seated sprint on the final little roller along the circuit. Boy, it’s definitely been a while. Though genuinely, I do miss it. It was so nice to stretch the legs.

Assuming I’m not dead tomorrow, I feel like I can factor in a bit more of a sprint-y workout into the forthcoming week’s advent of cycling fun.

So, that’s 6 in a row for me. Which I think may be a first. And what’s that, 17 or 18 to go? I can’t maths right now. I can barely see the screen at this point. It’s all becoming a blur.

Yikes.
