Blistering Pace

A fun one today. I decided to skip Thursday’s ride due to having a long, little enjoyable day in front of the computer. As such, even though it was raining, I didn’t want to stay indoors. I also didn’t want to ride my bike. So I opted to go on a long(ish) walk.

On that walk I covered ~6km, and burned about the same amount of calories I would have done in the SST session I had planned to do that evening.

Unfortunately, because I don’t do much walking anymore, I also managed to gain two really rather painful blisters, one on each heel.

Because Friday was a rest day, and because I largely work in my socks, this wasn’t much of an issue. I couldn’t wear my slippers, but I could make do.

However, when I got my cycling shoes on today, things were less enjoyable.

But I manned through it, because I’m a bloody bloke.

Actually it wasn’t that bad. Due to the movement of the foot during pedalling versus walking, I largely got away with it. There was a bit of rubbing, but the leg pain kinda distracted from it.

I have to say I found this session harder than the one earlier in the week.

However, I found it equally beneficial.

Also, during this ride I managed to watch quite a lot of Stage 8 of this years Giro d’Italia. I’m surprised Zwift haven’t done more with the Giro this year, as they do have a cool course available for this event.

Anyway, it was nice to watch the pros whilst my amateur self struggled along at a pace they probably consider recovery.

All in then, a good session today, felt happy enough after it. A nice workout in a condensed period of time.

The weather’s looking crappy for the next 10 days, as it has for the previous 10, so I suspect another indoor activity is on the cards tomorrow.
