Boris Bikes and Oyster Cards

For this morning’s workout I opted for an easy session, something to contrast nicely against yesterday’s race. Therefore I went with FTP Builder Week 8 Day 1, a really easy ride that is fairly long and boring, but gets the legs moving quite nicely.

For once it wasn’t chucking it down outside. Yet it was immediately raining on Zwift. Can’t escape it.

Then out came the sun, easy come, easy go.

As ever with these long blue zone FTP Builder rides I was bored quickly – this time before I’d even finished my warm up. It was going to be a long day in the saddle.

One of the downsides of early morning rides is that I can’t have my music on. At least, not very loudly. I had to opt for several Duo Lingo exercises to help pass the time. I also find that my ass goes waaay more numb on these types of rides than it ever does on harder rides. I think that’s a consequence of the way I sit – mainly upright, versus on the bars when pushing harder.

There isn’t a huge amount to say about today’s ride, so what I will say is I found out a bunch more about the forthcoming Tour of Watopia 2020 during this ride through Zwift Insider. It’s looking like a fairly disappointing event on the surface of things. Shorter than the TdZ 2020, and shorter than last years ToW.

On the positive side there will be both races and group rides over each stage, so that’s great news. I’m saddened that they haven’t decided to finish the Tour with a climb up the Alpe either. Anyway, it is what it is, and whilst I wanted a bit more of a challenge, it’s better than nothing.

It did make me laugh today to see I’d done almost the same amount of work, calorie-wise, in yesterday’s 30 minute race as I did in today’s hour. Efficiency! Or… I guess, lack there of.

I’m guessing tomorrow is going to be a Sweet Spot Session. Not sure if I’ll do that first thing, or wait until dinner time. I guess it really depends on how I feel in the morning.

Until then, ride on!
