Well, normally on an indoor session the water is dripping from me. Today, it was coming from the roof. Not good. In fact, very un-good and far from ideal.
The session today was intentionally easy. I went for an Active Recovery style ride – one of Zwift’s 12 Week FTP Builder sessions, just an hour long at 160w or 2.4w/kg, in order to spin out the legs ahead of tomorrow’s eighth and final stage of this years Tour de Zwift. That one looks like a monster.
But yeah, all day it’s been shocking weather here.
Last night I went to bed early with a banging headache. Part alcohol, part stress. I didn’t manage to fall asleep particularly soon after getting into bed, but I did get a good sleep after that till gone 9am this morning. Usually I’d work a Saturday morning also, but today I skipped it. Watched the Winter Olympics instead.
Though the headache was still there when I woke up.
I did peer out of the window and see the roads were dry and figured I’d have an Ibuprofen and then see about putting in an hour or so on the open roads once the medicine had started to work.
Unfortunately though, the rain and wind got there first.
By the time I got on the bike at 15:30 (headache now gone, mercifully), it had been raining pretty much all day. I fired up some YouTubes and off I went.
When I got off, I could see the window was a lot wetter than usual. The handle was soaked, the glass full of droplets, and the window ledge a proper puddle. I have some computers and bike parts below, and they were all wet too. Not good.
Thinking not a huge amount of it – just that it must be super windy to have blown in, under the window, and upwards… I mopped everything down, all the while getting further drips on me as I went. Mopping upwards, I noticed it wasn’t the window at all, it was the roof… two different places, both dripping quite steadily.
Bad times.
As I am writing this I have a towel lodged in the window, trying rather fruitlessly to keep the influx at bay. I also have a roofer promised to come and do some teeth sucking combined with pricey estimates as of Monday.
Anyway, I can still ride. And I do ride with the window open. No electrical sockets near there, and the computers that were nearby are all powered off. Disaster hopefully averted. Glad I spotted it, but I don’t think it’s done wonders for my stress.
Hopefully tomorrow’s ride goes to plan… not even given that any thought yet. Probably just gun it and try to get it over with.
