Not The Right Ride

The last two days have been fairly high effort rides.

Short (under an hour, anyway), but fast (enough).

Today should have been an endurance ride. But Zwift don’t massively cater for the “Endurance in Under 30 minutes” type of workouts. Probably because the statement is a total contradiction.

Anyway, I should have done a custom workout. I know that now.

Instead, I opted for the Flash Burn workout. I’ve done this one before, but I’d largely forgotten what it entailed.

I think the Flash Burn comes in at a 2/5 in terms of intensity. I needed about that. But by that I mean I needed 2/5 over the course of an hour. Not condensed into 30 minutes.

In short then, this was too intensive. Yet another one where I needed to work, albeit for only very short intervals.

What I actually need is to spin. Just a nice, easy spin.

I’m aware this is also a short workout – 27 minutes – and that with my other two rides coming in at less than an hour each, I’m a bit down on where I would otherwise like to be for the week so far.

But that will change over the weekend. Doing the Longer ride for Stage 2 of the Tour of Watopia is 70km, and looks like it will take ~2.5 hours to complete. That’s pretty mammoth. Long enough for me, anyway. That will more than make up for a comparatively short mid-week section.

For now though, I’m going to enjoy the rest. I might actually aim to do the Stage 2 ride on Saturday, just to get it out of the way. Not sure yet. Something to think about between now and then.
