Volcano Flat Pace Partner

Hmm, yeah I wanted to actually just do the Volcano Circuit with the pace partners, but apparently that’s not a thing. The pace partner ride that goes in / around the Volcano actually covers Volcano Flat route.

Not that big of a deal, all the same really at the end of the day.

The plan today was just to test out the pace partner as a potential alternative to certain types of more structured workouts. I was hoping to get in a little more of a social ride whilst still getting a solid session in.

Prior to hitting the ride I wanted to do, I decided I’d use a slower pace partner ride to warm up. I only spent 5 minutes on that ride as it was hovering around the 100w marker, and I find that kind of thing more frustrating than useful.

After that I jumped into this one, only then spotting it was a Cat C class ride so I could maybe have done my warm up in this ride without too much of an issue. Ahh well, more lessons learned.

With only two sweatbands and five riding days per week, it often happens that I’m missing some part of my kit. Unlike with outdoor rides where I have tons of different alternatives, this time around I had to just go with a towel only.

Now, last night I had a curry. I couldn’t finish it, actually. So I still have over half of it left for tonight. But the thing with curry is, well, there’s no polite way of saying this, but it stinks.

Combine the curry with a lot of perspiration and I swear to God, I was nauseated by my own aroma after 30 minutes. And as I only had a towel to mop up my skin soup, the combination of an ever increasingly moist rag and the festering smell of that along with the copious sweat spilling from my skin being blown into my face by the fan… well 🤢🤢🤢

That was actually what ultimately drew a line under this ride for me. I could have done up to 50km without much trouble. But I stunk.

I mean, I stunk so bad that when I got off my wife said she’d had to open all the windows as the smell coming from my room was turning her stomach 🤣

So yeah… by the time I’ve finally got rid of it from my body it will be tea time and therefore time to do it all over again. Absolutely lovely.

Be grateful you’re reading this from far away.
