Interrupted By The Builder Man

You know the drill: your partner is out for the day so they book in a selection of tradesmen and food delivery vans to constantly interrupt you. It’s all a big ploy. Well, today was such a day.

I was aware my wife was heading out for the day today. All business, I’m sure. Then yesterday some bits of wood arrived taking up the full length of the hall way. I didn’t give it much thought. Not my area of expertise, frankly. Then this morning I’m sat minding my own business, eating my toast and nutella and suddenly I get a WhatsApp – Chris, the joiner is on his way. 11:30.

A glance at the clock told me it was 10am, just enough time to wolf down my toast, finish off my paid work task, don my cycling clobber and bam, get on with an SST session (50 minutes) … giving me a whopping 10 minutes or so spare to shower and be ready to answer the door.

Alas, he arrived early.

Not only did he arrive early, but I had to then jump off the bike (thankfully on my last ‘off’ rep), get my t-shirt on, deconstruct parts of the living room – all whilst sweating profusely – before jumping back on the bike, finishing the set, showering, and sorting him out with a brew.

The things I have to put up with.

Anyway, the session today was fine enough. Even with an easy ride on Sunday and a rest day yesterday I was still hurting on that first interval. There’s always that niggling doubt of “can I get through this?”

Fortunately that pain wears off after the first rep and I kinda settle in to it. It helps to have something decent to watch on YouTube – and I struggled to find something today. Not to mention it’s harder to find stuff to watch when under duress. Aka, with sore and nagging legs. Typically for SST I find the video(s) first, then queue them up for the session. Not so today with the short span to prep.

But all good. I’ll take this as it was a good start to the week. Tomorrow is planned to be something of a recovery. Bit miffed as it’s 8c and sunny, so I could have gone out – if we didn’t have the tradesmen to contend with. It is what it is.
