Is there any wonder my FTP Test result was so poor when the last time I did an SST session was back in February?
Well, actually that’s not quite accurate. My last attempted SST session was in April. But I failed to complete that workout.
After that, I was less confident about being able to complete a further session, and so it’s unsurprising (to me, anyway) that I avoided this workout ever since.
The numbers that time would have been at Quarter 1’s FTP Result figure of 249w, meaning 240w on, and 220w off.
Prior to that, the one I did complete back in February would have been at, I think, 246w. So still in the same ball park, but the numbers to meet were 235w / 220w.
By comparison, today’s numbers were 225w / 210w. And the keen mathamaticians amongst you will realise those are higher than my FTP of 216w, meaning I must have meddled somewhere.
Indeed I did.
I set my FTP at 235w manually inside Zwift.
There’s no point going for 216w – I know I can do better than that.
So I’m starting again, for now, at 235w, and the plan is to build back up.
Actually, today’s session wasn’t particularly easy by any means. I worked for it. Just not killer.
Also, I should say I would normally race on a Tuesday, but a work meeting only finished just after 12 noon, and so getting on for 12:10 to race was a no go. That’s why today was a workout, and tomorrow will either be another SST, or the race. Not sure yet – tomorrow, too, is a busy day with meetings.
Anyway, I feel pretty good about this. Not too taxing, but positive progress. I will slowly begin to up the intensity such that I am reliably able to complete two SST sessions per week at the 246w numbers, and then that should put me in good stead to hit Quarter 3’s FTP Test with something like a hope of recovering from my shame.
