Slow & Steady

Unfortunately my back doesn’t feel any better today. I guess fortunately though, it doesn’t feel any worse.

I was hoping today to put in something a little more intensive than yesterday. But it’s not worth the risk, so I simply repeated yesterday’s 12 Week FTP Builder Week 5 Day 3 ride, which is boring but good enough.

Mostly today I focused on watching YouTubes.

A couple of things I have noticed on my travels around Watopia are the hand-bikes, and several of the pace partners.

Hand-bikes are definitely new since I last was regularly active on Zwift. I’d love to give that a shot, just for a change, but am not sure if I actually need a hand-bike to use that… though how would it know, so I guess not?

Pace partners though, cool for a couple of reasons.

I do love the “always on” group ride element. Having a set start time / duration isn’t always ideal, so being able to jump in and ride various popular routes is very cool. That was there last time but there was only one on at a time. Now there’s a bunch of them, and I’d quite like to do the Volcano Circuit one.

The other aspect that I like is that it makes the world feel busy. Today a large group of Japanese and Korean flagged riders passed me by and I thought how cool it was that on the other side of the world there’s a whole other side of Zwift that I rarely get to see.

Anyway, that’s all well and good but for now I’m stuck doing the endurance pace stuff until the pain subsides. Fortunately ibuprofen does the job, whilst it lasts. It’s just when it wears off. Hopefully the easy riding combined with time and patience will have me right by tomorrow, if not the weekend.

Frustrating really as I’m raring to go.

  1. I’m a big fan of the pace partners. I never do custom workouts for endurance or recovery rides now, just look for the w/kg I feel like joining. It’s less boring when you have to stay with a bunch, you fall off the back and oh boy, you gotta work to get back!

    • That’s the thing wrt falling off the back. On a steady state ride / whilst alt+tabbed out or whatever, I don’t want to have to think about it. I just pedal and zone out.

I’m sure I’ve seen a pace partner ride around the volcano circuit. That’s the one I wanted to do this week, but for the moment I have to do easier stuff. Today’s not so bad actually, hoping to go a little more intensive in my next workout.
