Turn the heat up to uncomfortable, and let’s go peddling!
The “Workout of the Week” this week is rather aptly called “The Volcano”, a repeat of the Zwift Academy 2022 workout by the same name.

Sticking to my enforced indoor schedule is challenging at the moment. Though I think it would be a stretch heading out in this heat regardless. Even so, inside, it feels ridiculous. Sweating warming up, let alone once the action is underway.
For today’s ride I picked a Group Workout, thinking it might be a fairly easy one. Not so. This one was challenging regardless of the heat.

There were two groups on offer for this one.
A longer and a shorter.
The longer ride took on the three repeats twice.

I opted for the shorter ride, for a couple of reasons. One was down to time – with half an hour for lunch, this one was pushing over that anyway. And secondly, after yesterday, I was all too aware of how hot it gets in here after 30 minutes on the bike.
Let me tell you, I was glad I opted for the shorter one.

Those 1.5 minutes at 110% FTP were suggested to be taken at a higher cadence than usual. I was keeping 95rpm for the 95% blocks, but ramping up was hard work. Those 30 second breathers felt non-existent.
Anyway, as intensive as this one felt, I was glad to get it in the books and tick off another day on the bike.

I’m thinking tomorrow may be a ‘recovery walk’, but as it’s due to be even hotter tomorrow that may not happen. What I may do is create a 40 minute zone 2 workout and hit that instead. Maybe.
I really don’t know right now. All I know is I’m too bloody hot.
