Calm Before The Storm

For this afternoon’s ride I opted for an FTP Builder session, repeating Week 9 Day 1.

This is a fairly long session at about 1.5 hours, and largely consists of two blocks:

  • 25 min at 130w
  • 10 min at 100w

And repeat twice. There’s a 10 minute warm up and a 5 minute cool down.

I skipped some of the warm up, both blocks of the 10 min at 100w, and I completed the rest.

My bike has melted into the ground. No wonder I’m not very fast.

Normally on a weekend I’d do a more intense session than this. Probably, given that last night I fully enjoyed a ridiculously indulgent Pizza Hut takeaway, I needed to burn off as many calories as possible.

However.

I did three fairly full of rides mid week.

Now that I better understand what a TSS score indicates, I can see that this week my average TSS per session has been around 75. Typically this would be closer to 65 over the mid week rides.

I was, therefore, kinda due an easier ride today.

Also, tomorrow I’m going to be hitting a proper climb. I’ve chosen the next climb – as I had plenty of time to kill during this afternoon’s ride. I’ll withhold what that climb is until tomorrow, and that’s simply because I’ve forgotten the name of it.

During this ride I managed to hit my weekly 3 hour riding goal. This is a bit misleading. I already met the 3 hour riding goal on Thursday, but of course, Zwift only tracks Zwift, and Thursday’s ride was on Tacx Software.

Interestingly, I also noticed that Tacx Software has a London city ride. I’m going to try that out this week. I’m wondering if I’ll recognise any of Zwift’s route along the way – all whilst trying not to get stabbed, and / or run over by a Ferrari.

Whilst I met my timed riding goal, I haven’t yet met the 100km riding goal.

I did stay on just a little bit longer than the end of this workout, hoping in vain to meet the 100km riding goal for the week. Again, as above, I’m actually at 132km already on the week, but it’s always nice to beat the Zwift goal.

Anyway, I didn’t manage it. No problem, I will likely do so during tomorrow’s pre-climb warm up ride.

Lastly for today I really mucked up:

For reasons completely unknown to me during the ride, I could not get my phone / Zwift App to sync up.

As such I couldn’t get my end of ride screenshots from the game itself. Instead, I had to take them from the phone app and upload them separately.

Welp, I am a newb. I had disabled WiFi on my phone. Silly me. I must have been burning my mobile data plan for at least the last few days.

Onwards, to the climb!
